Guys...Do you know that we also have a mask, maybe some of you know the populer mask
from abroad, yeah like Anonymous mask but it makes me sad why???....Because the youth
only know the mask from another country and their forget their
traditional mask from their city, Such the society around me, I have some prove that
they don't know about their traditional culture....here I wanna preserve the culture
from my beloved city by using something unique,enjoy it...
The Utilization of Kona Mask from Waste of Sawdust
Indonesia is an archipelago which has a lot of territory that stretches from Sabang to
Merauke. Indonesia has some cultural diversities. Although Indonesia consists of various
cultures, but we can live in harmony according to the Indonesian nation motto bhinneka
tunggal ika. However it is very unfortunate if the next generation does not know about
the local culture of their city.Bondowoso based on the geographically located in the eastern
part of the province of East Java, which has some artistic traditions. But some people do not
realize that Bondowoso has some cultural diversities. One of the culture in Bondowoso is
the traditional dance " tari topeng kona . The dance is a sacred dance. This is one of the
culture in Bondowoso but some societies are not widely known about this culture.There are
some things that need to be done to keep this existance of this culture. There are some ways
to keep this culture , and one of the way is by using waste. We can use waste that some
people think this is the thing which can contaminate the environment , and do not have
economic value . But here we are trying to change their mindset by providing training .
We tries to give leccyl training system . We try to combain between lecture training system
and recycle system become one way. Training system leccyl by using waste sawdust
is a training system that is given in the short term aims to complete the work with practical ,
by providing information and by recycling . The training was given to some people , with the aim
of utilizing become valuable goods , which is becomes a mask . This utilization not only makes
a valuable goods but with replica of the mask is expected to be able to help preserve culture in
Bondowoso city .By giving the training system to the society about making replica mask kona,
it will be greatly assist in the preservation of culture and help to reduce the pollution .
We choose waste sawdust to be used in this process ,because Bondowoso exist with some
idustry such as idustry furniture, jati and sengon. By utilization this waste , it can reduce
the pollution, because the owner of the idustry only burn this waste, the effect can produce
a smoke in the air. By giving this training, it can little bit help the environment from the air
contamination.Before giving the training system to the society, we try to find out
the percentage of peoplewho know about kona mask and to know the interests of society to
follow this training. The instrument of the research use questionnaire.
After doing the questionnaire, we tried to find the result, and after knew the result ,
she gave the training to the society because 69% of the society has an interest to follow
this program. Although there are some societies didn’t want to preserve this culture,
it doesn’t mean change the idea of the author for giving training to the society.
There are some ways in leccyl training system. The first way by giving the information about”
what is kona mask” and little bit told about the history of kona mask, then told the society
about the importance of protecting the environment, after that practicing in front of the society
about the stages of making a replica kona mask.
This is the some steps to make
kona mask from sawdust:

Make mold for kona mask by using
clay.
· Attachment a pieces of
newsprint on a clay mold , by mixing
with water.
· Mixing sieve waste
sawdust and wood glue
·
Attachment Sawdust on
the mask mold using a small trowel.
· Drying mask that has
been coated with sawdust and glue.
By making a replica of kona mask , the society will be more easier to know and
recognize the real mask as a cultural icon in Bondowoso.
